Trisura Group reported that its second-quarter operating earnings per share increased by 10 percent to CAD 0.76, driven by a combination of solid underwriting performance and a boost in investment income. The specialty insurer also announced that it has now surpassed CAD 1 billion in book value, a milestone it had originally aimed to reach by 2027.
Chief Executive Officer David Clare noted that the company's focus on disciplined risk selection and portfolio management continues to pay off, even as market conditions remain competitive across several specialty lines. He pointed to steady premium growth and a stable loss ratio as key factors behind the quarterly results.
The company also highlighted that its U.S. segment contributed meaningfully to the overall performance, with expansion efforts in that market gaining traction. Management reiterated its outlook for the remainder of the year, expecting continued momentum in both top-line growth and capital generation.
While the earnings figure came in slightly above analyst consensus, the bigger story for investors was the early achievement of the book value target. The company said it will now look to build on that base, with an emphasis on returning capital to shareholders through dividends and potential buybacks, without compromising its growth strategy.
Shares of Trisura traded higher following the announcement, reflecting renewed confidence in the insurer's ability to execute on its long-term plan. The company remains on track to report its full financial statements later this month.
