Amazon has created an $8 billion special purpose vehicle to purchase Nvidia Grace Blackwell chips and lease them back to AWS clients. The arrangement works as an off balance sheet financing tool for AI hardware. It arrives as cloud providers face growing pressure to fund expensive infrastructure without straining their own balance sheets.
The structure lets Amazon secure access to Nvidia's most advanced processors while spreading the cost across a separate entity. Clients who need large amounts of compute capacity can then lease the hardware rather than buy it outright. This model could become more common as demand for AI training and inference continues to climb.
Separately, Morgan Stanley has reinstated Nvidia as a Top Pick. The bank pointed to its outlook on AI data center demand and ongoing capacity expansion across the industry. The Amazon financing vehicle and the Morgan Stanley call both reflect the same underlying trend. Nvidia's chips remain the foundation for a growing share of AI infrastructure, and the money moving around them is getting more complex. Financing structures like the Amazon deal may shape how quickly data centers can scale in the months ahead.
