Lowe's Companies has launched a drone delivery pilot aimed at speeding up home improvement orders. The program operates in Matthews, North Carolina, and involves a partnership with Wing, a drone delivery company, and DoorDash, the delivery platform. Customers near the participating store can order select do it yourself and professional items through the DoorDash app and receive them in as little as 20 minutes.

Wing handles the actual drone flights, while DoorDash manages the ordering and fulfillment process on its platform. The service covers eligible products, meaning not every item in the store is available for aerial delivery. Smaller hardware, tools, and common project supplies are the likely focus.

The pilot reflects a wider push among retailers to shorten delivery times and cut reliance on traditional road based logistics. Drone delivery remains limited by regulations, weather, and payload capacity, but companies continue testing it as a way to serve urgent, small orders. For Lowe's, the Matthews trial will show whether customers actually use the option and whether the economics work at scale.
