Italy’s AI Dark Horse Hits a Grand Slam

Italy’s AI Dark Horse Hits a Grand Slam

The Italian company that most people have never heard of just tore up its long-term roadmap. Technoprobe, the world's leading maker of probe cards used to test advanced semiconductors, is riding a wave of demand so strong that it has already blown past its five-year revenue target in half the time.

Probe cards are the unsung heroes of chip manufacturing. They act as the interface between the silicon wafer and the testing equipment, ensuring that every tiny processor works before it gets shipped out. With the explosion of AI chips from companies like Nvidia and AMD, the need for high-performance testing has skyrocketed. Technoprobe, based in the Marche region of Italy, has become the go-to supplier for this critical step.

The company originally set a goal to reach 500 million euros in revenue by 2027. It hit that number in 2024. Now, management has scrapped the old plan entirely and set a new target of 1 billion euros by 2028. The jump is fueled by the shift to more complex chip designs, which require more advanced and expensive probe cards. Each new generation of AI accelerator demands a custom testing solution, and Technoprobe is cashing in.

What makes this story stand out is the location. Italy is not typically seen as a powerhouse in the global chip supply chain, which is dominated by Taiwan, South Korea, and the United States. Yet Technoprobe has quietly built a dominant position through deep technical expertise and a relentless focus on precision engineering. The company now supplies every major chipmaker in the world.

The surge is not just about revenue. Profit margins are expanding as the company moves into higher-value products. With AI hardware demand showing no signs of slowing, this Italian dark horse looks set to keep running far ahead of schedule.
