CoreCivic Inc. is getting more attention from Wall Street after an analyst doubled down on the stock and raised the price target significantly. On August 10, Joe Gomes from Noble Capital repeated his Outperform rating on the company, which operates private prisons and detention centers. He also bumped his target price from $35 to $42 per share. That new target suggests the stock could climb more than 24% from where it closed on August 27.
Gomes points to stronger than expected financial results and steady demand for CoreCivic's services as the main reasons for the bullish outlook. The company has been benefiting from a tight labor market and increased need for correctional and detention facilities across the country. Federal and state agencies continue to sign contracts, which gives CoreCivic a more predictable revenue stream going forward.
The analyst also notes that CoreCivic has been managing its debt load better and improving its cash flow. That has allowed the company to invest in upgrades and return some capital to shareholders. With the stock trading below its historical averages, Gomes sees room for the market to re-rate the shares higher as the fundamentals stay strong.
Investors seem to be paying attention. The stock has moved up in recent sessions, and the higher price target adds to the positive momentum. While there are always risks tied to government policy and public opinion around private corrections, the current setup appears favorable for CoreCivic. For now, the analyst believes the risk reward is tilted to the upside, and the new target reflects that confidence.
